Research Awards Reception and Phi Zeta Research Emphasis Day

LSU Vet Med is hosting a research awards reception, Phi Zeta induction ceremony, and Phi Zeta Research Emphasis Day on February 24-25. The research reception takes place at 5 p.m. on February 24 at LSU Vet Med, and Phi Zeta Research Emphasis Day will take place on February 25 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The reception highlights recipients of distinguished research awards while celebrating the innovation, collaboration, and scholarly impact of our faculty, trainees, and students. Phi Zeta Research Emphasis Day is an annual event showcasing the innovative research of LSU Vet Med DVM students, graduate students, interns, residents, staff, and faculty. Through oral and poster presentations, attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the impactful work advancing veterinary medicine and biomedical science across our school.

Please note that MS and PhD candidates do not need to have a research interest in veterinary medicine and research does not need to benefit animals. LSU Vet Med is a biomedical research institution as well as a veterinary school. Our researchers' investigations cover a wide range of disciplines, including cancer biology, disease processes, cardiovascular disease, infectious and parasitic diseases, neurosciences, toxicology, bacteriology, and more.

As temperatures drop, the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine reminds pet and livestock owners to take extra precautions to keep animals safe and healthy during the coldest months of the year. Cold weather can worsen medical conditions such as arthritis, and animals—like people—have different tolerances for low temperatures. LSU Vet Med veterinarians encourage owners to schedule preventive care exams to ensure pets and livestock are ready for winter.

The LSU School of Veterinary Medicine will host its annual Open House on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at LSU Vet Med on the LSU campus on Skip Bertman Drive. The event is free and open to the public and welcomes animal lovers of all ages.
