Shane's Headshot

I've long been drawn to the idea of growing into the best version of myself through challenge and adventure, while keeping an open mind that everyone's sense of "adventure" can be vastly different. I had a seminal experience as a young adult while on my own personal adventures and wanted to give others the same opportunity, to whatever extent that I am able. I love the idea of learning and playing for a living and that if we can combine the two, we're set up for lifelong growth and success. I come to LSU with over a decade of experience in "experiential education" and still find life and joy in the work that I do. Just as you never step into the same river twice, I'm honored to give what I have to give and learn from you and hope to see you at the climbing wall or at the challenge course.

Life's Blueprint

In June of 2020, my family moved to Louisiana from my home state of North Carolina. My partner wanted to start her career back here, in her home state, and I started my role as a stay at home dad. We now have two little boys (5 and 2) and the decision to be home with them has been the best thing I've ever done in my life. I'm grateful I have had the opportunity to develop an intimate bond with them, teach them, learn from them, and take such a deep dive into parenthood.

Life's Best Tip

Early in my experiential education career, one of my mentors told me "no one cares what you know until they know that you care." That's stuck with me as a guiding principle in work and in life for the last 15 years and continues to shape almost everything that I do.

My Word
